Final flood alert likely at Mullaperiyar dam area
Theni, Oct 28 (UNI) The Public Works Department (PWD) officials here are likely to issue the third and final flood alert in the Mullaperiyar dam area with water level crossing the 135 ft mark today.
The first flood alert was sounded on October 26, when the level rose to 134 ft and the second alert followed up with the level touching 135 ft the next day, official sources said.
The final alert would be sounded as and when the storage level reached 136 ft, they added.
Meanwhile, with the level in Vaigai dam rising to touch 66 ft, the officials directed the people living in the low-lying areas in Vaigai basin to move to safety.
