Fresh clashes begin amidst compensation promise by CM

Nandigram, Oct 27: Even as Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee announced compensation plans for the families of those killed in the March 14 carnage and thereafter, fresh clashes broke out between CPMI(M) and BUPC activists in Nandigram early today.

Repotedly, CPI(M) supporters tried to enter Nandigram from the Khejuri side by crossing over the Tekhali bridge.

The Bhumi Uchhed Protirodh Committee(BUPC) activists retaliated with exchange of fire and lobbed bombs in various areas including Jahanabad, Takapura, Ranichak, Amdabad, Dihikamalpur, Satengabari and Sonachura. The situation is presently very tense as firing still continues.

A huge police contingent, led by East Midnapore District SP Anil Srinivasan, has been stationed on the spot. Reportedly, some houses had been looted but there was no information on any casualty or injuries what so ever.
