Shopkeeper killed, SPO hurt, mortar bombs seized in J

Srinagar, Oct 26 (UNI) One person was killed and a Special Police Officer (SPO) wounded while security forces busted a militant hideout in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, an official spokesman said.

Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a shopkeeper in the apple-rich Sopore town of Baramulla district in north Kashmir today.

He said 25-year-old Firdous Ahmad Mir was shot dead near his residence while he was returning after offering prayers in a mosque at Janwari.

Police have registered a case in this regard and launched a manhunt to nab the culprits.

An SPO, Mohammad Farooq, was wounded when a hand grenade exploded in his hand at Darhal in Rajouri district of Jammu region today.

He has been hospitalised.

Troops of the 51 Rashtriya Rifles busted a hideout and seized a huge haul of ammunition, including three mortar bombs, in Mahore tehsil of Reasi district in Jammu region today, official sources said.

On receiving specific information about the presence of militants in Shikari village troops launched a search operation in the area and busted the hideout this afternoon.

Besides three mortar bombs, three UBGL grenades, 50 rounds of AK 47, 16 pencil cells, two injections, four anti-biotic bottles, anti-reactors, tincture bottles were seized during the operation.
