Annabishekam performed in TN


Jayankondam, Oct 26: The annual Annabishekam (special abishekam with cooked rice) was performed to the Asia's largest Sivalinga and Lord Prakatheswarar, the presiding deity of the world heritage temple at Gangaikondacholapuram near here yesterday.

The historic temple, replica of Thanjavur big temple was build by Rajendra Chola the son of great Chola King Raja Rajan, builder of the big temple in Thanjavur.

The annabishekam was an annual affair during the full moon day of Tamil Month Aypasi. 108 bags of raw rice was cooked for this historic event and the same was poured on the giant Siva Lingam. After performing special pujas, the rice offered to Lord Shiva was distributed to the devotees, who were came in large numbers from different parts of the State.

Later, the temple authorities fed rice to the fish in several bonds and tanks in and around the temple, according to temple sources.

'Ruthraabishekam' would be performed to Prakatheeswarar today, as part of the event, the sources added.
