Two held for attempt to burn alive students

Gorakhpur, Oct 25 (UNI) Police today claimed to have arrested two persons for attempting to burn alive two students in Santkabir Nagar hostel of Gorakhpur University.

Senior Superintendent of Police R K Rai today said, ''An FIR was lodged against eight students, of whom -- Raj Kapoor Rai and Sujeet Chaurasiya -- have been nabbed.'' On October 22, some senior students had attempted to burn alive BA II year student Santosh Singh and MA I year student Meraj Lari over a hostel' room dispute, he added.

While one victim had been referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, the other was convalescing in a private hospital, the SP informed.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Cantt area was also suspended under charges of laxity, he said.

The student union leaders, have alleged that the mistake was the administrations, as they failed to allot hostel rooms in a fair manner.
