Construction workers stage demo to press demands

Puducherry, Oct 25: Construction workers owing allegiance to the AITUC took out a procession and staged a demonstration in front of the Labour office today to press their demands.

The protestors led by CPI state secretary Na Ra Kalainathan and national council member R Viswanathan, were demanding, among other things, provision of Rs 1,500 as deepavali gift and remittance of the annual subscription of workers to the welfare board by the government.

Meanwhile, the PWD technical and administrative staffs held a demonstration in front of the PWD Chief Engineer's office, demanding restructuring of all posts, GPF provision for mazdoors, enhancement of washing allowance and honorarium, among other things.
