Wild elephants damaging paddy crop in several villages

Baripada, Oct 24 (UNI) At least six wild elephants from the neighbouring Jharkhand forests were causing depredation in several villages under Jashipur block of Mayurbhanja district of Orissa.

The rampaging elephants entered into the Budipat forests in Mayurbhanj on Sunday and destroyed standing crops of Bandiraposi, Baria, Datikia, and Pahadipur villages of Jashipur block.

The affected villagers demanded adequate compensation for the loss of crops, and also to drive away the marauding pachyderms to their habitats in Jharkhand.
