Punjab Congress welcomes Non-Basmati rice export ban removal

Chandigarh, Oct 24 (UNI) Punjab Congress has welcomed the decision of the Union government to exempt all Non-Basmati rice varieties having minimum prices of 425 US $ per tonne from export ban.

Punjab Pradesh Congress president and leader of opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, in a statement here today said that it was a positive and appropriate decision in interest of farmers of the country, especially Punjab and Haryana.

She expressed her gratitude to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for lifting ban on rice export and watching the interests of agriculture community, which was already in doldrums because of mounting debts.
