Police lathicharge mob attacking ration shop

Barasat, Oct 24 (UNI) Police today resorted to lathicharge and fired a few rounds of tear gas shells to disperse an irate mob attacking a ration shop dealer at Pawan Kathi of Bithari-Hakimpur panchayat area under Swarupnagar police station in North 24 Parganas.

Police said Basirhat Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jay Biswas, who rushed to Bithari with reinforcements, sustained injuries as the mob petted stones on the police party.

The incident occurred when police intervened after a group of consumers attacked the dealer's house and shop and set a jute godown afire.

Meanwhile, a section of the villagers attacked another ration shop near the Block Development Office of Habra II block at Guma.

Police soon rushed to the spot and dispersed the mob.

However, no arrest has been made so far, police added.
