NDF wants bail for Marad accused, to take out protest march

Kozhikode, Oct 24 (UNI) Kerala-based Muslim outfit National Democratic Front (NDF) will take out a protest march from the northernmost district of Kasargod on October 26 demanding bail for 139 people accused in the Marad violence which claimed nine lives in 2003, in the state.

Talking to newspersons here, NDF General Secretary P Abdul Majeed Faizi said the accused were arrested on mere suspicion and languishing in jail for the last four-and-a-half years without trial.

Majority of them were suffering from various chronic diseases and needed urgent medical attention which was not available in the jail, he claimed.

A memorandum signed by more than ten lakh people would be presented to Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan on the concluding day of the March at Thiruvananthapuram on October 31 to stress on the demand, he added.
