Karur, Tamil Nadu, Oct 24 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Ganhdigram near here with AIADMK workers resorting to a road blockade, protesting against the detention of Karur MLA Mr Senthil Balaji over the violation of taffic rules.
The trouble started when traffic police intercepted Mr Balaji at Puliyur and asked him to wear safety belt. He defied the instruction and shouted at the police party. A wordy duel followed and he parked the vehicle on the middle of the road.
His supporters joined him and obstructed traffic on the Karur-Thiruchirapalli National Highway for about two hours. Though, top police officers reached the spot and attempted to persuade the MLA, he refuced to yield.
Later, police led Mr Balaji to the Armed Reserve Police ground at Gandhigram. AIADMK workers staged an agitation there also.
However, the MLA was released after police top brass intervened.
