Ahmedabad, Oct 24 (UNI) The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) president Paru Jaykrishna today welcomed the clarification issued by the Election Commission on the state government's earlier pronouncement on abolition of octroi from seven municipal corporations and said there was no apprehension left now on its implementation.
In her congratulatory message to Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet ministers, Ms Jaykrishna said on the auspicious day of 'Labh Pacham' on November 15, there would be a full stop on the issue.
She said the state government made a primary declaration on June 6 but due to apprehension about the code of conduct, the government, with its foresight, formulated a studied response in terms of its compliance mechanism to pass the bill in a significant session of legislature on September 12 and endorsed the decision by issuing a notification, wherein it specified November 15 as a date from when it would come into effect.
However, with the declaration of state elections in December, it posed a question on this issue and trade and industry was in a dilemma about its implementation but, ultimately, the state government as well as the people of the state have emerged victorious when the Election Commission has given its decision today.
Reiterating the GCCI's faith, she further mentioned that right from June 6 pronouncement, the GCCI was confident about its implementation, but people at large were obviously apprehensive.
However, after all the issues were clarified, there was no place for any element of distrust.
With this announcement, a large section of people as well as trade, industry and transport segments are rejoicing. The relief from burdensome octroi has provided a new economic freedom as a consequence of which the development and growth of the state economy will reach at a new peak, added Ms Jaykrishna.
