Five injured in wall collapse, four fishermen missing

Thanjavur, Oct 24 (UNI) The just set North East monsoon rains which started lashing the Cauvery Delta districts since yesterday have wraught damage albeit on a minor scale with four fishermen reported missing and five people being injured in two incidents of wall collapse.

Three people were injured in Mayiladuthurai and two at Matoor village in Thanjavur district.

The injured were admitted to a Government hospital at Thanjavur.

Meanwhile, four fishermen, who went for fishing from Akkaraipettai in Nagapattinam district five days ago had not returned so far.

Sirkali received 231 mm of rainfall followed by Coleroon 197 mm, Nagapattinam 164 mm, Tanjavur 111 mm, Mayavaram 100 mm, Needumangalam 100 mm, Lower Anaicut 107 mm, Tiruppondi 145 mm, and Tiruvaur 101 mm.

The other places received about 100 mm rainfall in the last 24 hrs.
