New Delhi, Oct 24 (UNI) The CBI today said it will decide the future course of action in the Connaught Place shootout case, in which quantum of punishment for ten convicted Delhi police personnel was pronounced, after studying the judgement.

''We will study the judgement and then decide the future course of action with regard to the quantum of punishment,'' a CBI statement said.

A sessions court today handed down life imprisonment to the police officials found guilty in the 1997 Connaught place shooting case, after a ten-year trial.

Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar rejected the plea of CBI demanding death penalty for ACP S S Rathi, head constable Mahavir Singh and Constable Kothari Ram.

Earlier on October 16, the court had convicted all the ten policemen for killing businessman Jagjit Singh and his associate Pardeep Goel. Third person Tarun Singh was injured.

The police officials who were found guilty in the case are ACP S S Rathi, Inspector Anil Kumar, Sub-Inspector Ashok Rana, Head Constable Shiv Kumar, Head Constable Tej Pal Singh, Head Constable Mahavir Singh, Constable Sumer Singh, Constable Subhash Chand, Constable Sunil kumar and Constable Kothari Ram, under Sec 120 B (criminal conspiracy, 302 murder, 307 attempt to murder, 193 false evidence, read with Sec 34 common intention) of IPC.

The prosecution had argued that ACP Rathi, Head Constable Mahavir Singh and Constable Kothari Ram were the main conspirators in the case and be given death sentence.
