15 given life term for killing 11 during Kanpur riots

Kanpur, Oct 24 (UNI) A local court today handed down life sentences to 15 accused holding them guilty of killing 11 people during riots, in the aftermath of the Babri Masjid demolition in December 1992.

Additional District and Sessions Judge S M Hasseb pronounced the judgement after 15-year-long proceedings.

This is probably the only case, where a verdict has been given in connection with the post-Babri demolition violence.

Pushpendra Yadav, Prem Narayan, Bihari Lal, Ratan Lal, Sri Pal, Krishan Kumar, Amarpal, Rajjan Sachan, Deependra Sachan, Raj Kumar, Naval Kishore, Manoj alias Bablu, Raj Kumar (another person), Raj Narayan and Ramashankar were found guilty of the crime, which took place during the Kanpur communal riots on December 10, 1992.

According to the prosecution, they had killed Manzoor, Veeru, Rashid, Ramzani, Anees, Chhote, Sazma, Akhtari Begum, Saddam Hussain, Shaukeen and Zakir Hussain in Govindnagar area.

Meanwhile, soon after the verdict was read out in the court, some lawyers barged into the chamber of the judge and allegedly misbehaved with him.

On getting the information, the district judge reached the judge's chamber and took him away.
