Lucknow, Oct 23 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to set up a joint interrogation centre (JIC) in the state capital to enable various security agencies question terror suspects.

''The proposal has been accepted in principle...The JIC will help a variety of security agencies interrogate terror suspects as per their requirement and mandate,'' said a senior official here.

While almost all the neighbouring states have a JIC, UP decided to set up the high-tech centre quite late.

The proposed centre would have all the necessary aids to interrogate terror suspects and their aides. The equipment would include audio-video gadgets and medical equipment. The much-hyped narco test would also be a possibility.

The proposed centre would have sufficient armed personnel to man the complex and a well-stocked booth to keep weapons to repulse any attack.

Several states and central agencies have JICs to interrogate terrorists and other suspects on the various aspects of national security.

''Suppose, if police arrests a militant, it would question him about the plans and his aides...the Income Tax department or Directorate of Revenue Intelligence would question him for the financial links across the border. The IB and R&AW may have other questions...a joint centre helps everyone question the person under one roof and share inputs to bust the entire module and repulse any possible terror strike in time,'' said the official.
