Revised photo electoral rolls to be released on Jan 11

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 23 (UNI) The revised photo electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu would be released on January 11, Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta said today.

Addressing a press conference here, after reviewing the ongoing preparatory works to issue the voters identity cards, with the collectors of Tiruchirapalli, Karur, Perambalur, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai and Krishnagiri districts, Mr Gupta said the preparation works had been completed in Dindigul, Karur and Namakkal.

He said 99 per cent of the work was completed at Vellore, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Erode, Tiruchirapalli, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai and Krishnagiri districts.

While answering a question, he said all the voters in Tamil Nadu would be provided with voters identity cards by first week of January next.

Two more printing centres would be established, apart from the one in Chennai, on behalf of the state-owned Tamil Nadu Electronic Corporation, he said.

The new voters ID cards would be of 'smart size'.

He also pointed out that as per the Election Commission's suggestion, efforts would be made to set up voters ID card centre shortly in every Assembly constituencies in the state.

The proposed centres would be located within the respective corporation limits and other centres would be established in respective taluk offices.

In Chennai city, the centre would be established in all the ten zonal offices of the Chennai City Corporation, he added.
