One killed, 11 injured in an accident

Gangtok, Oct 23 (UNI) One person was killed and eleven were injured in a road accident today at Rangpo, 41 km away from here.

Police said all the victims were tourists from Srirampore in West Bengal's Hoogly district.

The accident occurred when the taxi (WB 76-3644), carrying the tourists, lost control while giving way to a lorry and fell into a 80 feet deep gorge, police said.

The driver of the taxi died at the spot, police said adding that the vehicle was coming from Darjeeling to Gangtok.

Police further added that all the injured have been rushed to STNM hospital in Gangtok. Two of them were in serious condition.
