Discovery Channel's tribute to holy Ganges

Lucknow, Oct 23 (UNI) The discovery channel is all set to pay tribute to the holy Ganges with an engrossing three-part series titled 'Ganges', starting tomorrow.

The three-part series would be telecast every Wednesday from October 24, Associate Director -- Marketing&Communications, Rajiv Bakshi said at a press conference here today.

The series traces the journey of Ganges from the mystical Himalayas to the sea, presenting the varied forms of life, cultural and religious entities and beliefs that thrive along its banks.

''Ganges touches the lives of the Indian people through several manifestations, such as livelihood, economy, ecology, religion, beliefs etc. The series aims at covering all such aspects,'' he added.

The three-parts include--Daughter of the mountains, River of life and Waterland.

A special premiere for the media was also conducted at the news conference.

Mr Bakshi said the viewers would watch festivals and rituals of the magnificient cities that are on its bank from the cremation ghats in Varanasi to fire festivals in Haridwar and the Kumbh Mela in Allahabad, which is believed to be the largest human congregation on earth.

He also informed the series would be telecast both in Hindi and English languages.

Replying to a question, the Discovery Channel official said the programme would be telecast for the Indian audience first.
