BSF arrest two for smuggling counterfeit currency into India

Malda, Oct 23 (UNI) Border Security Force today claimed to have arrested two suspected Bangladeshi nationals from Shashani village, near Indo-Bangladesh border in this district for smuggling counterfeit currency into the country.

Official sources today said Montu Shekh and Monirul Shekh were arrested yesterday by the 14 Bn of the BSF with fake currency amounting to Rs 2.5 lakh of Rs 500 denomination.

Baisnabnagar police station Officer in charge Anil Ray said the duo admitted to the crime, adding they had planned to take the currency to Delhi via Jharkhand.

He has also confirmed that the currency had been made in Bangladesh and both were suspected Bangladeshi citizens.

Police also suspect their association with a Bangladeshi militant organisation. However, they have yet not found any proof in this regard.

Incidentally, Rs 20 lakh have been recovered in the same manner from this district in the past 10 days.
