UN envoy on Myanmar meets Menon

New Delhi, Oct 22 (UNI) United Nation's special envoy on Myanmar, Ibrahim Gambari, met Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon here today and discussed issues related to restoration of democracy in that country.

Although no word was officially available on the meeting, sources said Mr Gambari had called upon India to exert its influence with the military junta for restoration of democracy in Myanmar.

Mr Gambari, who arrived in New Delhi yesterday, is on a six-nation fire-fighting mission for restoration of democracy in Myanmar.

He has already held several rounds of meetings with leaders in India, Thailand and Indonesia on the issue of restoration of democracy in Myanmar.

He has already held discussions with the military leadership in Yangon.
