UHBVN detects 8,791 cases of power pilferage

Chandigarh, Oct 22 (UNI) Intensifying its campaign against theft of electricity, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has detected 8,791 cases of pilferage of power upto October 15 this year.

The Nigam teams conducted surprise checks at 93,483 consumer premises and imposed a penalty of Rs 7.96 crore on the erring consumers, of which Rs 3.77 crore had been recovered, a spokesperson said here today.

The Nigam had fixed a target of surprise checking of 1,18,900 consumer premises during the current year.

About 80 per cent checking had been made during a period of about six months. As per the present checking trends the Nigam was all set to achieve the target before time, he added.

He said the Nigam had disconnected the connections of 120318 non-payers.

Of these, 29,899 connections of non-payers had been disconnected in Ambala and Panchkula districts, 24,753 in Yamuna Nagar, 21,773 in Kurukshetra and Kaithal districts, 15,719 in Karnal, 10,943 in Panipat, 8,858 in Rohtak and Jhajjar districts, 3,318 in Jind and 5,053 in Sonepat district.
