Sugarcane Minister to meet sugar mill owners

Lucknow, Oct 22 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui has called a meeting of sugar mill owners and department officials here tomorrow.

Official sources said here the current crushing season started on October 15 and the state government had already directed the sugar mills to start crushing.

Last year, some sugar mills had started functioning after October 20, while this year they are expected to start crushing around Diwali next month.

Sources said the state government wanted sugar mills to function on time, so that farmers do not face hardships.

The sugarcane growers are apprehensive that if crushing does not start soon, the sowing of wheat would be affected.
