Saudi Arabia-bound youth delegation calls on Vice-President

New Delhi, Oct 22 (UNI) A 12-member youth delegation, led by MOHF Shahjahan, Minister of Transport and Information Technology, Government of Puducherry, called on Vice- President Hamid Ansari here today.

The delegation, comprising Arabic scholars, linguists and poets as well as budding IIT engineers and IT students, will be visiting Saudi Arabia for 12 days, beginning Wednesday, under an Annual Exchange of Youth Delegation Programme.

During the visit of Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud to India in January last year, an agreement on cooperation in the field of sports and youth affairs was signed in the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Saudi King.

The signatories were Mr Oscar Fernandes, the then Minister of State of Statistics and Programme Implementation and Youth Affairs and Sports and Mr Lyad A Madani, Minister of Culture and Information of Saudi Arabia.

As part of the agreement, the two countries had agreed for an annual exchange of youth delegation.

To begin with, the delegation will be limited to 12 young persons on either side, whose duration of the visit will be 12 days.
