Amreli, Gujarat, Oct 22 (UNI) Accusing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi of trying to break the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in order to cling to power, saints from across the state today held a congregation here under the Hindhu Dharam Jagran Manch and pledged to oust him from power.

The announcement assumes significance as this is the first time that the Sadhu Samaj has come out in the open against Mr Modi, who was addressing a well-attended rally just four km away from this Sammelan.

One after the other, Sadhus spewed their 'venom' against Mr Modi whom they alleged as having one point programme ''save his seat'' at any cost, completely ignoring the Hindu agenda and that of the Sangh Parivar, which had helped the BJP to come to power after the Godhra carnage.

''We have come forward because it is a question concerning the Hindu Samaj (Community) and the Hindus of Gujarat,'' they said.

In their diatribe, they did not even spare senior party leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani.

Avichal Maharaj of Sarasa said Mr Modi was following in the footsteps of Mr Advani who had also strayed from the main objectives of the party and forgotten the Ayodhya issue while in the Government and eyeing the premiership.

The saints said the Chief Minister has not done much for the development of the state in the past five years. Instead, he only promoted his own image. '' The Ravana had atleast developed the Lanka into a '' Suverna Nagari'' (Golden city), which was destroyed by Lord Rama for his misdeed. Now time has come to oust Modi for his misdeeds and disservice towards the Hindu Samaj,'' they thundered.
