Punjab Rural Games for Girls to begin tomorrow

Bathinda, Oct 22 (UNI) More than 1,500 players from all districts of of the state will compete in the Punjab State Rural Games for Girls Under-16 to be conducted by the Punjab Sports Department at the Sports Stadium here from October 23 to 25.

Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari and Sports Director Pargat Singh told media persons here today that all arrangemetns, including boarding and lodging, transport etc have been completed for the smooth conduct of the Rural Games.

Competitions will be conducted in track and field events, kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball, hockey and weightling.

Member of Parliament Paramjit Kaur will inaugurate the Games while Punjab Olympic Association president and former Union Sports Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa will be the chief guest and distribute prizes at the closing ceremony on September 25.

Pargat Singh said that the Punjab teams would be selected during the state rural games. Punjab will be fielding its team in the National Rural Games (archery and kho-kho) to be held in Jaipur from November 24 to 27.

The State teams will also compete in the Nationals Rural Games in weightlifting, football, volleyball and tug of war to be organised in Goa from November 26 to 29. The National Rural Games in athletics, hockey and wrestling will be held in Faridabad from January 5 to 8, next year.

For all the three National Rural Games, the Punjab Sports Department will be holding coaching camps for 15 days in each discipline to prepare its teams.

Meanwhile, Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari, Sports Director Pargat Singh and SSP Naunihal Singh and other members of the organising committee reviewed the arrangements.
