Professor jumps before speeding train

Karnal, Oct 22 (UNI) Adarsh Kumar Gupta, head of the english department in the local DAV college, allegedly committed suicide by throwing himself before a goods train near Gokaripur railway crossing this morning.

A member of the S D School governing body, 57-year-old Gupta was under depression for some time, sources said.

However, no suicide note was recovered from the site.

His scooter was found parked before a shop near the track, police said adding that he was identified by his residential phone number which was recovered from his purse.

Karnal MP Arvind Sharma and MLA Sunita Singh, NCP state president Chowdhary Ved Pal, principals of the city colleges and other prominent educationists in the area have expressed shock and grief over the incident.

Meanwhile, the GRP has recovered body of a woman, aged about 65 years, from the tracks near Bajida Jattan railway station this morning. The unidentified body was lying in the yard of the railway station, GRP sources said.
