Man dies after South London shooting
LONDON, Oct 22 (Reuters) A man has died and another was seriously injured after a shooting in South London in the early hours today.
Police were called to Streatham High Road just before 0530 hrs local time am after reports of shots being fired.
Witnesses reported seeing two vehicles leaving the area, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.
A man aged about 30 was taken to the Mayday hospital in Croydon with gunshot wounds but died a short time later.
Police said they believe they know his identity, but were waiting to inform next of kin before releasing his name.
Another man was taken to a different hospital, also suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was listed as in a serious condition.
Officers from Operation Trident, which investigates black on black gun crime in London, have been called in.
Parts of the busy main road were closed while officers searched the area for clues, the spokesman said.
The shooting was the latest in a wave of gun killings in England this year, mostly in London and Manchester.
