Labour unrest at Gauri Shankar Jute Mill in Naihati

Barrackpore, Oct 22 (UNI) Labour unrest at Gauri Shankar Jute Mill in Naihati of North 24 Parganas resulted in the closure of the mill today.

A police picket has been stationed at the mill to maintain law and order.

Situation became serious when the workers protested against the management's 'anti-labour' acts as the latter removed a number of looms from the loom section of the jute mill during the Durga Puja festival, downsizing regular work, workers alleged.

They further stayed away from their duties since this morning.

Police, however, said that no untoward incident had been reported so far.
