Army Havildar commits suicide in J&K

Jammu, Oct 22 (UNI) An army Havildar allegedly committed suicide today by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his place of posting in Bari Brahamana, about 15 km from here, official spokesman said.

The body of the Non-commissioned Officer (NCO), Havildar Balaprasad, 40, of Signals Regiment, was found hanging at 0700 hrs, defence spokesman Lt Col S D Goswami told UNI.

The signalman was a resident of Banda, Uttar Pradesh, he said.

Army has lodged an FIR with the police and instituted an independent Court of Inquiry (COI) to ascertain the reasons forcing the NCO to take the extreme step.
