Teppotsavam celebrated

Vijayawada, Oct 21 (UNI) Marking the conclusion of the 'Navarathri' clebrations at the famous Kanaka Durga temple here, the presiding deity along with Lord Mallikarjunaswamy, was taken out in a 'Hamsavahanam,' a swan-shaped boat, in river Krishna this evening.

Earlier, amid chanting of Vedic hymns, the processional idols were brought down in a 'palanquin' from Indrakeeladri Hill to Durga Ghat.

Devotees chanted ''bhavani matha ki jai...'', as the swan boat sailed in the water.

Tight security arrangements were made to avert rush at the main ghats at the foothill. Only pass holders were allowed into the Ghats.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and Bharatiya Jan Sakthi (BJS) President Uma Bharti were among those who offered worship to the Goddess on the occasion.
