Security tightened in Chennai city

Chennai, Oct 21 (UNI) Heightened security arrangements have been put in place in all the important places in the city for the ensuing festival Deepavali.

In a brief chat with reporters after participating in the Commemoration Parade here, Tamil Nadu DGP P Rajendran said, adequate security arrangements have been made and additional police personnel are being posted in all vital installations including the places where public generally congregate for shopping.

''Sizeable number of police personnel are being posted on 'bandobust' duty to prevent any untoward incidents in areas like T Nagar, Pondy bazaar, Puraswalkam and Mylapore,'' he said.

Additional parking space had been created in all these areas to prevent traffic congestion, he added.
