Police Commemoration Day observed in Haryana

Chandigarh, Oct 21 (UNI) Haryana Police observed the 48th State Level Police Commemoration Day at police lines at Panchkula this morning.

Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Ranjeev Dalal and other senior police officers and other officials paid their floral tributes to 708 police personnel who sacrificed their lives for their duty.

In his tributes, Mr Dalal recalled that on October 21, 1959, ten police personnel of the CRPF on border patrol laid down their lives in Ladakh, protecting the Indian territory from Chinese intruders.

Since then, October 21 is observed as Police Commemoration Day, not only to commemorate the memory of those ten brave souls but also to remember the thousands of policemen of other state's, who laid down their lives every year, while protecting others, he added.

Mr Dalal said internal security situation of the country was at the cross-roads. Policing was no longer about fighting petty criminals, the country is facing threats to its peace and security from organised quarters with support from across the borders, he added.

He stressed upon the need to upgrade weaponary and training.The challenge is to minimise the loss of life and property of innocent civilians, he said.

Additional Director Generals of Police, C P Bansal, Mr Brijinder Rai, Dr John V George, Mr Swaranjit Singh, Mr V B Singh, Mr Rakesh Malik and other senior police officers and officials of all ranges and districts were also present in the function.
