Dussehra celebrated in UP

Lucknow, Oct 21 (UNI) The people of Uttar Pradesh today celebrated the festival of Dussehra, that marks the victory of truth over evil, with fervour today.

The celebration also marked the end of the 'Durga Puja' in the state.

The immersion ritual of the Goddess Durga idols had started in various rivers across the state. Large processions accompanied the immersion ceremony amid chanting of devotional songs and hymns.

Meanwhile, a teenaged boy drowned during one such ceremony in the river Yamuna at Etmadpur, Agra.

The prominent feature of Dussehra, the burning of giant effigies of demon king Ravan, his brother Kumbhkaran and son Meghnad, concluded across the state amid enthusiasm, especially among the youth and children.

Tight security arrangement had been made in view of the festival.
