At least 10 killed in US Baghdad strikes-police

Written by: Staff

BAGHDAD, Oct 21 (Reuters) US air strikes killed at least 10 people and wounded 42 early today in the northeastern Baghdad district of Sadr city, a stronghold for Shi'ite militants, police and hospital sources said.

A police source in Sadr city said a 14-year-old boy was among the dead and that the raid at dawn on Sunday left several houses, shops and cars ablaze.

A second police source gave the same toll and said the heavy strikes came after a US vehicle was targeted by a roadside bomb. He said the death toll may rise.

A health ministry source said 10 bodies and 42 wounded had been taken to Imam Ali hospital in Sadr city.

There was no immediate comment from US forces in Iraq.
