Nagpur, Oct 19 (UNI) A constable of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), deployed for anti-naxalite operations in Gadchiroli district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle.

According to the police, the constable, identified as Satish Radhakishan Wate, fired four rounds from his rifle while alone in his barrack in Sironcha in the district late last night. One bullet hit him 'below the waist,' injuring him seriously, a police press release said. Wate was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his wound just before midnight last night, it said.

''It appears from a note found on Wate's body that he was under mental pressure because of domestic trouble. However, no names have been mentioned in the note,'' the press release said.

Wate's unit, SRPF Group XII from Hingoli, had been deployed in Gadchiroli three months ago, and he had gone on leave twice since, it also said. He had returned from leave on October 10 last and there had been no change in his behaviour, it said, adding that a case of accidental death had been registered at Sironcha police station.
