Dehradun, Oct 19 (UNI) The Sahara India Group launched the sixth publication of its Hindi Daily Rashtriya Sahara here today.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri inaugurated the first issue of the Dehradun edition in the presence of Rashtriya Sahara Media Head, Sumit Roy.

''The power of media was known all over the world but it has both been used and misused,'' Maj-Gen (retd) Khanduri said.

He stressed that the media ought to maintain its credibility by emphasising more on positive reporting so that the society benefits from it.

The Chief Minister added that nowadays more space was given to the sensational news rather than human interest stories. ''This negative and melancholic approach should change,'' he emphasised.

Maj-Gen Khanduri hoped that the Rashtriya Sahara's Dehradun edition would prove to be the true mirror of the society, focusing on local issues of Uttarakhand.

''I want the paper not only to praise the Government but also to project its shortcomings so that we learn from it,'' he exhorted.

Rashtriya Sahara Media Head Sumit Roy said it was a challenge to launch a paper in place where literacy rate is high. He added ''We would do justice to the people's expectation by providing good journalism''. He maintained that now the media want to serve more in less time and in this changing situation the challenges have doubled.

However, he said '' our aim is focussed on creating and developing the conscious of the people through good and positive journalism. We do not intend to create noise but to tell the readers only facts.'' Earlier Group Editor Ranvijay Singh read out the message from the Head of Sahara Group, Subroto Roy.

Mr Roy said the Sahara publications were more committed in carrying out the social and moral responsibilites.

Describing Uttarakhand as the state which has produced more intellectuals, freedom fighters he hoped that jorunalists here would practice courageous, unbiased and transparent journalism.

The Dehradun edition of Rashtriya Sahara Hindi Daily is the sixth in series after Delhi, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Patna UNI
