Prisoner escapes from hospital

Barrackpore, Oct 19 (UNI) A prisoner under judicial custody in Dum Dum Central Jail escaped from N R S Medical College Hospital in the city this evening, sources said.

The prisoner, Sanwar Khan, a Bangladeshi, who was transferred from Bangaon Sub-divisional Correction Centre on October 2 and soon admitted to the N R S Hospital, fled from the hospital lavatory, the sources added.

Two constables of the Jail were deputed to guard the prisoner in the hospital, source said.

Sanwar was held by the Border Security Force and handed over to the police at Bangaon. He was remanded in judicial custody at the Bangaon Correction Centre.

A senior police officer here, however, said that he had no information in this regard and no written report was furnished by the jail authorities about the disappearance of any prisoner.
