prisoner escapes from hospital

Barrackpore, Oct 19 (UNI) A prisoner under judicial custody in Dum Dum Central Jail escaped from N R S Medical College Hospital in the city this evening, a jail source said.

The prisoner, Sanwar Khan, a Bangladeshi, who was transferred from Bangaon Sub-divisional Correction Centre on October 02 last and soon admitted to the N R S Hospital, fled from the hospital lavatory, the reports coming to the jail authorities in Dum Dum Central jail stated.

Two constables of the Central Jail were deputed to guard the prisoner in the hospital, source said.

Sanwar was held by the Border Security Force and handed over to the police at Bangaon and was remanded to judicial custody at the Bangaon Correction Centre, sources said.

A senior police officer here, however, said tonight that he was unaware of the fact and no written report was furnished by the jail authorities about the disappearance of any prisoner.
