Kohima, Manipur cut-off by road for 4th day

Kohima, Oct 19: National Highway (NH) 39 remained blocked for the fourth day today between Dimapur and Kohima, following heavy landslides at Lalmati near Kiruphema.

Border Road Task Force (BRTF) sources said that efforts were on to clear the highwaym, which happens to be the lifeline of the Nagaland and Manipur.

However, continuous mud slides from the hill tops, triggered by incessant rainfalls have made the job difficult for the BRTF.

Since the weather seems to have improved today, the officials expect to carry on with their clearing job. Hundreds of vehicles still remain stranded along the highway carrying essential commodities and petroleum products for Nagaland and Manipur.

Meanwhile, prices of essential commodities are rising with the begginning of shortage in food items and necessary commodities.
