K'taka: Bommai Kollu for Dussehra

Bangalore, Oct 19 2007: The hallmark of Dussehra in Karnataka is not just the royal celebrations in Mysore city but also Bommai Kollu, an exhibition-like display of dolls by young girls in their homes.

Apart from the regions of old Mysore State, Bommai Kollu is also popular among many families in Tamil Nadu. Bommai means doll or a toy in Kannada as well as in Tamil. A Kollu can be as simple or as elaborate as one likes and depends on the space in one's house.
