Imphal, Oct 19: The Durga Puja festival is being celebrated in Manipur with gaiety and splendour amidst tight security arrangements.
The transport department today announced extensive traffic regulations in view of the festival and all the roads leading to the major temples in the state hyave been blocked.
Only VIPs were allowed to travel on four wheelers while the others were allowed only on foot near the temple and 'pandal' areas in different parts of the city, especially in Hiyangthang temple and Kalimai temple at Imphal.
A large number of 'pandals' had been erected at various locations. Governor Dr S S Sidhu had greeted the people of the state on the occasion.
Security has been beefed up near the temple complexes. Police said security personnel will remain stationed at the temples till late at night during tonight's 'puja'.
