Smuggled PDS rice recovered

Karur, Oct 18: Revenue officials have seized 16 tonnes of Public Distribution System rice, meant for smuggling to neighbouring Kerala from Thanjavur, here yesterday.

According to Taluk Supply Officer Moorthy, they intercepted a lorry during routine vehicle check-up and effected the seizure, worth about Rs 2.25 lakhs.

They arrested lorry driver Rajan Babu (40) and cleaner Stalin (25), who were later handed over to the Civil Supplies CID police for further action, he added.
