Vijayawada, Oct 18: Aditya Birla Retail Limited will open nine supermarkets in the Vijayawada region tomorrow, its Chief Executive Officer Andew Denby has said.
Addressing a press conference here last evening, he said the supermarkets, aptly named 'More' would offer a wide range of product categories, including fruits, vegetables, personal care, home care, household general merchandise and dairy products.
The nine supermarkets in the region would come up in Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry and Bhimavaram.
Mr Denby said the launch of the stores in the Vijayawada region would improve shopping experience for the entire family.
He said Aditya Birla Retail, which already had stores in Pune, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Delhi and in the suburbs of Mumbai, intended to be among the leading players in the country. Beginning with a series of supermarkets, the company would over a period of time start hyper markets, catering to monthly and event based shopping needs, he added.
To ensure fresh supply of fruits and vegetables to customers, the company had built direct linkages with farmers, he said.
Company Chief Operating Officer Shiv Murti, who was also present, said each store was being set up at a cost of Rs 50 lakh. About 250 stores would be launched by October 2008 in the State, of which 120 would be located in Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
