India, Qatar to ink labour protocol soon

Dubai, Oct 16 (UNI) India and Qatar are likely to sign a labour protocol which will take care of the concerns regarding welfare of Indian expat workers in the Gulf state.

To formalise the key agreement, India's federal minister for overseas affairs Vayalar Ravi has invited Qatar's Minister for Labour and Social Affairs, Dr Sultan bin Hassan Al Dhabit Al Dosri to New Delhi, Doha daily's report said.

After Eid holidays, either the minister or his representative is expected to reach the Indian capital city in this regard .

Of the 900,000 population of Qatar, nearly 1.5 lakh are Indian expats. Though Qatari economy is growing at a scorching pace, visas to more Indians are discouraged to maintain a demographic balance in the Gulf state.
