House panel to probe into journalist's abduction in Nepal

Kathmandu, Oct 16 (UNI) A parliamentary panel will probe into the abduction of a journalist in Nepal.

A meeting of the parliamentary Human Rights and Social Justice Committee held in the presence of Speaker Subash Nembang announced the formation of a four-member panel led by lawmaker Urmila Aryal to investigate the case.

Suspected Maoists abducted Birendra Sah, affiliated to Nepal FM, Dristri Weekly and Avenues TV, on October 5 from Pipara Bazaar, Kalaiya VDC-6, the district headquarter of Bara.

Besides Ms Aryal, MPs Kamala Panta, Lila Naichhai and Tilak Pariyar will be the other members of the probe panel.

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) had also urged the government to take action to ensure that those responsible for attacking and abducting journalists are punished.

The parliamentary committee has summoned Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula also to enquire about the security situation.
