B'desh Army Chief dismisses speculation of taking over as Presiden

Dhaka, Oct 16 (UNI) Bangladesh Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed who is now in London, today dismissed speculation about his taking over as President.

''Many questions are lurking in many minds but time will give answers to all the questions. I have no desire to become the President,'' he told reporters at Bangladesh High Commission in London, according to a UNB report.

General Moeen who went to London, yesterday said there is no scope of considering army as a separate entity. The army is a part of the government. Like general people, army also wants clean democracy in Bangladesh.

Recounting the background of the state of emergency imposed on January 11 this year, the Army Chief said the country was moving towards a civil war in the wake of violent political activities.

General Moeen said priority of the incumbent caretaker government is to hold free and fair election, transfer of power and restore democracy.
