Bangladesh supports UN initiatives to resolve Myanmar issue

Dhaka, Oct 16 (UNI) Bangladesh fully supports UN initiatives of brining about an amicable solution to the current situation in Myanmar.

UN Secretary General's Special Envoy to Myanmar Ibrahim Gambari is currently on a mission in Asia.

Talking to mediapersons here today, Bangladesh's Foreign Advisor Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said, ''We are pleased Mr Gambari has been able to engage all sides in his dialogues. He is currently consulting with Myanmar's neighbours.'' Dr Chowdhury, who had recently discussed the Myanmar situation with the Special envoy in New York, said he had confidence in Mr Gambari's capabilities and wished his mission all success.

Such efforts should receive the highest international priority in stabilising the situation in Myanmar, he added.
