Tunisia floods death toll climbs to 11
TUNIS, Oct 15 (Reuters) The death toll from flooding in Tunisia rose to 11 today after heavy weekend rains caused rivers to burst their banks in the north of the country, official news agency TAP and local media reported.
''Three bodies have been found so far, bringing to 11 the number of victims from these torrential rains,'' TAP said.
Five people were still missing in the floods, which swept away cars, blocked traffic and inundated streets and homes north of the capital Tunis. The security forces were still searching for survivors, TAP said.
Local newspapers said a baby and a 16-year-old were among the victims, surprised by the heavy downpours on their way to visit relatives for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
Weather forecasters said they expect more rain today.
