South Korea liberals pick ex-anchorman as candidate

SEOUL, Oct 15 (Reuters) South Korea's ruling liberal party today picked a former TV anchorman and minister responsible for North Korea as its presidential candidate whose low poll ratings make him a long shot at best in the December election.

Polls show Chung Dong-young, 54, a populist backing a soft line on North Korea and more aid to South Korea's poor, is 40 percentage points behind the main conservative party's candidate.
